The plan fell into several categories. Update the electrical system, replace the overhead doors with insulated doors, finish the pump bay ceiling, replace the forced air heaters with radiant tube heaters, strip the old paint from the bay floor, paint the entire station (inside & out), replace compressed air and water lines, add a compressor room, remove old unused wiring and cabinets, replace all apparatus bay lighting.

We contracted with an electrician to do the wiring (assisted by our members) and we contracted the replacement of the overhead doors. All other aspects of the project were completed by members of our department. We are fortunate to have members that can plumb lines, paint, install heaters and lay block.

All of the problems from systems that were 45 years old were taken care of. We have reduced our natural gas consumption by 30%, the building now has three separate heating zones, the electrical system can now handle any load without having circuit breakers kicking out. The heaters now run less often because the recovery time after one of the overhead doors are opened is much quicker with the radiant heat.
