In 2004 we applied to FEMA for an "Assistance to Firefighter" grant. We were awarded our grant in Sept. 2004 for $81,350.00. The FEMA Grants are competitive and are awarded on scored scale. The Grant is a 90 / 10 grant with the Township paying 10% of the $81,350.

You must be specific in what you are going to purchase and only those items are then bought. Our goal in applying for the grant was to improve the EMS and Fire services we offer the public. Two (2) new Life-Pak 12 cardiac monitor / defibrillator were the number 1 item we requested. This replaced two Life-Pak 10's that are no longer in production. We took the older LP-10's and placed them in the two front line Pumpers. This gives us four Advanced Cardiac Life Support responders instead of the usual two and allows immediate cardiac defibrillation if required on a third or fourth EMS run. The new units can be used by the Paramedics as a ALS unit or by the EMT’s as an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), it also has the capabilities to monitor blood pressure, pulse oximetry and end tidal CO for intubated patients. The units cost $21,000.00 each.

Along with the LP-12's were purchased two (2) Elkhart Brass "Rapid Attack Monitors" (R.A.M.). The small one man monitors allow one firefighter to quickly pull, place into position and then flow a 500 GPM fire stream by himself. To normally flow that amount of water would require two 2 ½" hose lines with at least six firefighters. One was placed on each front line pumper. Each unit cost $2,600.00

We were also able to purchase 1000' of large diameter supply hose, 1000' of attack hose, 12 SCBA face pieces, "Fit-Tested" each member of the department for their face piece and assigned each member their own personal unit, 6 sets of turnout gear and some additional Technical Rescue training materials.
